Other Important Events:

  • Severe chest pains which I checked out with Dr. Anderson and the verdict was no problem found with my heart.
  • Started working with a good trainer by the name of Suzy Zavodny which I liked very much.  Good workouts and good conversations.
  • ESW expresses deep sorrow for angry email
  • Scammers phoning ESW many times per day.
  • Had a wonderful weekend “seminar” with my 6 kids during which we stayed overnight at the Marriott University Hotel and had deep discussions taking with other about life, visiting our family home at 4187 Neptune Drive, then visiting the Ward the kids grew up in, then driving around the neighbors near our home and talking  about our neighborhood friends and the experiences we had with them.
  • Tom Alder sues LDS Church for weaseling him out of a commission on a $300,000 Minerva Teichert which Tom had hoped to sell, but the Church ended up purchasing it direct from the owner.  Tom finally won the lawsuit ( Werner says Tom got $100,000 in the lawsuit from the owner of the painting and the Church, maybe from their insurance companies) which was in negotiation, but never went to court.  The Church’s attorney tried to pull me in to the law suit, but I resisted and finally I phoned the President of Kirton-McConkie, the Church’s attorney, and found that the Church and Tom settled the law suit in Tom’s favor, the day after I talked with Rob Hyde, President of Kirton-McConkie (interesting that the lawsuit ended the day after I complained to Rob Hyde).
  • Sam Williams gets a mission call to Chile.
  • I played some fun tennis in Palm Desert.
  • I try to sell a Dixon painting for Diane Keaton without success.

  • ESW and I agree to sell condo in Palm Desert. Todd Eager lists it for $219,000.  Doug Stevens tells ESW that her 4 children do not want condo and are happy to see it sell.  It takes only a few weeks to sell.  I end up selling it for close to the price I bought it for,  No profit.
  • End of tennis with Tricia in February due to my not feeling well.
  • ***Flint Dixon dies and I arrange special red rose ceremony at the cemetery with Sig friends each placing a rose on his grave.

After several weeks of bad digestion, persistent diarrhea, several diets which were prescribed by Doctors Mark Lewis, King Udall and Instacare physician on call, I finally went back to Dr. Udall and we discussed the idea of my seeing a specialist and I suggested Dr. Randall Burt, a top gastroenterologist at Huntsman Hospital who Dr.Udall phoned and made an appointment for me to see him.  Dr. Burt said to me, after a 1/2 hour discussion, that he would like to see my pancreas, and he scheduled an appointment for me to have a CT scan of my abdomen at 7:30 pm the very next day. That scan revealed a tumor on the outlet of my pancreas. Huntsman  Met with Huntsman’s Dr. Mulvihil who scheduled “Whipple Surgery” for me 3 weeks after seeing Dr. Burt.  I had a stress test at IMC by Dr. Anderson to see if my heart was strong and stable enough to withstand the very trying surgery which Mulvihil had me scheduled for.  Dr. Mulvihil had said to me at our first meeting “You have two choices…one is that you go through a very tough surgery with me or the other is that you will be dead in 2 years because of the tumor on your pancreas. It turned out that Mulvilhil was wrong as I later found out by seeing Dr. Ott at Intermountain Medical Center (Dr. Ott being recommended by Greg Stevens).  Dr. Ott pulled up 10 years of medical history on me and found that I had had similar symptems 4 years ago and there was an Xray done at that time at LDS hospital which showed a tumor on my pancreas then, but the doctor who reviewed the Xray results had missed seeing the tumor. Dr. Ott told me that since that tumor had been sitting on my pancreas for 4 years there is a good chance that it will remain stable and that we should not consider surgery, but instead have a CT scan every 6 months to see if the tumor remains stable or if it is growing (a growing tumor would be a problem requiring surgery). After speaking with Dr. Ott I had confidence that he had the correct approach to my problem and he agreed to be my physician.  When Mulvihil got the old Xray information he agreed that surgery was not necessary at this point.

  • I had a fine blessing from Dan and Clayt and felt comfortable with my new medical situation.
  • Stomach pains once per week, quite severe.
  • Sloane Kettering visit thanks to Tina.
  • ESW and I visit NYC and Sloane-Kettering’s oncologist
